Highly entertaining!
We really enjoyed the show. The Congress Theatre is great for this, the view is excellent, and the sound is good. The Sound engineer here did an amazing job of mixing the incredibly diverse range of instruments whilst also retaining their individuality and enabling each to be clearly heard an distinguished within the mix - no mean feat at all! The Cast was exceptional - each brought a myriad of talents to proceedings. Singing and musicianship was particularly strong. Choreography, songs and circus acrobatics were all good, but obviously a tad limited within the scope of the production. Sometimes, particularly at the start (until we had 'tuned-in') we found the narrative with the American accent and fairly rapid delivery difficult to follow - but that goes with the storyline so it is what it is, and wasn't crucial to our enjoyment. Overall each element added enough to produce a thoroughly entertaining spectacle - we just couldn't believe the multiple talents displayed by all the cast!
Not for us
This was not a good show. For a start, the lead Matt Rawle, couldn’t walk the tightrope despite 4 attempts. Indeed he wasn’t much of a lead at all. Much of the acting seemed wooden, amateurish and forced. Monique Young as the leading lady was by far the best performance. The musical talent was excellent as was the acrobatics but that couldn’t make up for the overall poor acting. Dominique Planter was also another outstanding performance. We have seen many many shows in London and MK and this was a real disappointment. MK shows are of top quality normally but this wasn’t up to their usual standard.
