Great show, he is incredible. Very talented. Very entertaining.
Bad sound engineering
First half of the show you couldn't hear anything he was saying, everyone in the audience was asking "what is he saying " got a bit better in the second half, overall he was brilliant, but the sound spoilt it.
Meh
I have seen two of Derren’s previous shows and they were far more impressive. It started with a convoluted audience participation task which no one seemed to understand. And there are only so many times you can see cold reading and suggestion before feeling bored. Nodded off slightly in the second half. Deeply concerned about some of the ethical issues surrounding an aspect of the second half. Overall, this was an illustration of the law of diminishing returns.
Unbelievable. Literally.
Whilst this kind of show may still fool the less keen eyed, unfortunately the performance we witnessed tonight was far too obvious in it's casting of participating audience members (many of whom overacted in moments that felt entirely unnatural or who'd been spotted in the halls preparing beforehand), poor use of AV intended to be "live" (timing indeed, is everything), and ham-fisted, all too predictable writing that gives most of the magic away before the tricks had begun. The highlight of the show, in a "if you know, you know" double entendre was Derren dressing as the Wizard of Oz at the close. A clever nod to those in the audience who've caught on to the act, and a fantastical way to end for those who haven't. For the ticket price, this show and it's execution should be better. Far, far better.
